IPPMI Orientation - January 12, 2011

IPPMI celebrated its newest group of trainees with the orientation to the Spring Semester 2011. The 14 new participants had a welcoming greeting from IPPMI faculty and staff. This new group of participants includes 9 trainees from Seoul Metro Government, one trainee from GeongGi-Do Province, two from Gwangju Metro Government, and two from Seoul Public Enterprise. We welcome our newest group of trainees and look forward to the great opportunities we will have together this year!

MOPAS Executive Education Program - December 14-22, 2010

Over nineteen South Korean government officials visited Lexington and Chicago in December 2010 for the MOPAS Executive Education Program. The attendees attended several seminars on global economics taught by Martin School professors. They also visited Central Kentucky. Near the end of the program, the Korean officials visited several Chicago local government offices. More information about the MOPAS program can be found here.

Field Visits

Washington, D.C. - Spring 2010

March 8 - 12, 2010

Eight IPPMI trainees visited government and public agencies in Washington, D.C. Their group met with representatives from the Washington, D.C. Mayor's Office, the DC Public Schools System, the DC Housing Authority, the US Department of Agriculture, and the Smithsonian National Zoo. The participants also got an opportunity to serve as delegates for visits with public organizations in Washington, D.C. that are similar in function to the public enterprises or metropolitan governments in their home countries. A brief outline of the schedule of the field visit is outlined below:

Kentucky State Government - Spring 2010

The IPPMI participants once again visited the Kentucky State Government in the state capital of Frankfort, Kentucky, just 20 miles west of Lexington. The participants were hosted by representatives from the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development.

The trainees met with several state agencies, departments, and public organizations to get a good overview of the different functions performed by the Kentucky State government. Some of these agencies, departments, and organizations the trainees met with are:

  • Transportation Cabinet
  • Personnel Cabinet
  • Department of Environmental Quality
  • Tourism, Arts & Heritage Council
  • Cabinet for Health & Family Services
  • Office of the Secretary of State
Kentucky State Government - Fall 2009

November 17 - 19, 2009

The IPPMI Participants visited the Kentucky State Government in the state capital of Frankfort, Kentucky, just 20 miles west of Lexington. The participants were hosted by representatives from the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development.

On Tuesday the participants had a meeting giving them an overview of the Kentucky State Government and they had a private tour of the state capitol building.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the IPPMI Participants were able to meet with several state agencies and departments that deal with the same kinds of issues our participants face with their employing agencies in their home countries. A few of these state agencies and departments that hoted IPPMI partiipcntas are listed here:

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government

September 28 - October 1, 2009

During fall semester 2009, the IPPMI participants were graciously hosted by representatives of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government for a field visit.

On Monday and Tuesday, the participants met with representatives of LFUCG to get an overview of the LFUCG. They also attended a General Council Session, a meeting of the municipality's legislative body.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the participants were able to visit departments and agencies that work with LFUCG in areas that matched the interests and backgrounds of the participants. Some of these agencies and departments that hosted IPPMI participants are listed below:
