Replication

On this page I provide links to data and Stata code to reproduce published results.

Currently, replication materials are available for this article:
George A. Boyne, Oliver James, Peter John, and Nicolai Petrovsky. 2009. "Democracy and Government Performance: Holding Incumbents Accountable in English Local Gov- ernments." Journal of Politics 71 (4): 1273-1284.
http://journals.cambridge.org/abstract_S0022381609990089

To reproduce the results reported in this article, two files are required:

1) The first is the actual data set that can be downloaded from http://store.data-archive.ac.uk/store/. To find the specific file search for Petrovsky in the Search Projects box on the right hand side of the homepage. The dataset is named BoyneJamesJohnPetrovsky.dta, right click and save the file to your computer.

2) The second file is the do-file that can be downloaded here. Right click and save the file to the same directory of your computer.

Please save both the data set and the do-file to the same directory and then run JOP2009.do using the do command in Stata.

By running the do file a reproduction of all commands, charts, and graphs should be available to you.  Since this is a rather large set of commands, the best way to find a specific item of interest is to use the JOP2009.smcl file that is automatically created in the same directory the data set and do file are saved.  Open the JOP2009.smcl and click the icon of the binoculars to bring up a search box.  Any page of the article that has results can be searched using this search.  For example, if you search “Page 1277” you can view the methods used to create Table 3.
